South Africa will name their new head coach on April 12.
South Africa Rugby Union (SARU) president Oregan Hoskins announced on Friday the appointment of the preferred candidate to replace Heyneke Meyer had been ratified by their General Council following a meeting in Cape Town.
The General Council is made up of the 14 member unions of South African Rugby and is the final step in the process of appointing a Springbok coach.
"We are happy to have reached this point and are particularly excited with our final choice," Hoskin told SARU's official website.
"Today's ratification triggers the final part of the process. We're looking forward to being able to confirm our choice publicly."
Meyer opted not to renew his contract with the Springboks following a disappointing 2015 season, which saw them finish third at the Rugby World Cup in Great Britain.
And while this is the third delay in naming their new coach, SARU president Hoskins maintained their preferred candidate had already been made aware of the logistical plans for the new Springbok season.
South Africa will begin their season with a three-Test home series against Ireland in June, with matches taking place in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Port Elizabeth.
