Newport Gwent Dragons sign Wales prop Craig Mitchell from Cardiff

Former Wales prop Craig Mitchell will swap Cardiff Blues for Newport Gwent Dragons next season, Dragons coach Kingsley Jones has confirmed.

Mitchell won the last of his 15 Wales caps on the 2013 tour of Japan. He joined the Blues from Exeter in January, 2014.

"He's put his hand up, he still wants to play for Wales and I think it's a great signing for us," Jones said.

"We all know tight-head is a critical position and that he will bring a lot."

Jones, who was speaking at a meeting with supporters at Rodney Parade, also revealed that tying Wales wing Hallam Amos to a new contract was a priority.

Amos' current deal runs until 2017 but it is hoped he will join Wales U20 stars Ashton Hewitt, George Gasson and Ollie Griffiths in committing his future to the region.

Matthew Screech, Cory Hill, James Benjamin, Keagan Bale, Dorian Jones and Connor Edwards have also signed new deals.

"It is our intention to see our home grown talent at Rodney Parade," Jones said.

"We are not expecting anymore players to be leaving us this season."
