Wasps director of rugby Dai Young wants Aviva Premiership clubs to be told out sooner rather than later if any of their stars are likely to be included in Great Britain's Sevens squad for this summer's Olympic Games.
Simon Amor, coach of the GB side, has been reported to be holding behind-the-scenes meetings about using players from 15-man rugby, but time is against them becoming fully integrated in the specialist, shorter form of the game.
Young is worried about the potential impact on the players and their clubs. "If they went to the Olympics, they've got to have the five-week rest, then pre-season. Realistically, any of our players who go won't play for us again until mid-October," Young was reported to have told the Daily Mail.
"It will have to be sanctioned by PRL [Premiership Rugby] -- I would hope the clubs have some say in it. If they want to take any of our players, it will have to be progressed sooner rather than later."
There has been speculation that Wasps players Christian Wade, Joe Simpson and Danny Cipriani -- who is joining from Sale this summer -- have been earmarked for Olympic squad places.
