England won the Canada leg of the World Rugby Women's Sevens Series beating New Zealand in the final.
Australia are closing in on the overall series title after they took the tournament titles in Dubai, Sao Paulo and Atlanta but they bowed out at the semifinal stage at the Langford Sevens losing to Simon Middleton's England.
New Zealand crossed first in the final but England went into the break 19-14 ahead thanks in part to two tries from Heather Fisher who was later crowned player of the final while further tries from Jo Watmore and Alice Richardson helped steer them to their 31-14 triumph.
England coach Middleton said: "The girl's put in a spectacular day of rugby. These tournaments are all about day two as we have just proved as our performances all day were sensational.
"We didn't have a great day one but we dusted ourselves off and the girls have shown what a talented group they are and what great shape they are in."
Australia took the bronze thanks to a 19-12 win over France while Canada won the plate final and Fiji finished with the bowl.
Up next is the final leg of the series at Clermont-Ferrand across the weekend of May 28-29.
