Toulon bounced back from their Champions Cup exit with a 25-9 win on the road at Pau.
England fullback Delon Armitage crossed twice for Toulon and they also forced a penalty try to outscore the hosts three tries to nil.
The first half ended with hosts Pau 9-6 ahead thanks to two long-range Damien Traille penalties and another from Colin Slade. Toulon nearly scored twice in the first 40 with Xavier Chiocci going close and Romain Taofifenua's effort ruled out due to a knock on in the build-up but Pau managed to hold them out.
Toulon eventually found their try-scoring form in the second 40 with Armitage crossing twice. And they were awarded a late penalty try by referee Thomas Charabas after a sequence of scrums.
