Toulon exit Europe as Champions Cup semifinal line-up confirmed

Toulon's run of three European titles on the bounce has come to an end after they fell to a 19-16 defeat to Racing 92 on Sunday.

Mourad Boudjellal's side claimed the Heineken Cup in 2013 and 2014 and then followed that up winning the Champions Cup last term. But there will be a new name on the trophy come May 14 after Toulon were knocked out of the European competition at the quarterfinal stage by a late penalty from Racing No.9 Maxime Machenaud.

The semifinal picture sees Saracens play Wasps on April 23 at the Madejski Stadium and Leicester Tigers face Racing 92 at Nottingham's City Ground on April 24. With three Aviva Premiership teams in the final four, they will be aiming to become the first English team to win Europe's premier title since Wasps' triumph in 2007.

An eventful weekend of quarterfinals in Europe saw Wasps leave it late to beat Exeter on Saturday while Saracens were made to work by a spirited Northampton Saints side to book their place in the last four. Leicester Tigers thrashed Stade Francais on Sunday and that was followed by Racing's triumph at the Stade Yves du Manoir.
