Nigel Wray hopes Saracens' young crux of English players can emulate Manchester United's famed Class of '92 as they look to establish themselves as the dominant force in European rugby.
Saracens won their first European title on Saturday when they claimed the Champions Cup with a 21-9 victory over Racing 92.
At the spine of their triumph are a group of English players who are the in the same age group and chairman Wray has drawn parallels between the likes of Will Fraser, Maro Itoje and Owen Farrell and that famous Manchester United crop who went on to be England's dominant force for over a decade.
Wray's wish is that the young group stick together and grow in a similar manner to how David Beckham, Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville, Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt did under Sir Alex Ferguson.
"What's really interesting is that like Manchester United's class of '92, there's half a dozen of them - the class of 2008 - who have all come through together and have now all played in a European final," Wray said in the Guardian. "People forget that we've got 17 English players.
"What's exciting is that they can go on for the next five years. They're young lads and, wow, that's what it's about. It's a bit grand to use the word 'dynasty' but let's just say we want to do bloody well. While winning the European Champions Cup was great, there is more."
