Sale Sharks have signed prop Halani Aulika from relegated London Irish.
The Exiles' relegation from the Aviva Premiership was confirmed on Sunday after Bedford fell to Bristol in the Championship playoffs and tight-head Aulika becomes the first player to leave the relegated side.
He will journey north next season to the Sale Sharks who will be playing Championship Cup rugby.
"I have been watching Aulika all season and when his agent got in touch I didn't hesitate in signing him," Sale boss Steve Diamond said. "He is a great scrummager and puts himself about on the pitch. I am sure he will be a big asset for us next season and beyond."
Aulika will bring a wealth of experience to Sale having won 17 caps for Tonga.
"I have loved my time at London Irish and I'm very thankful for their support I have received during my time at the club," Aulika said. "I would like to thank the supporters for all they have done for me over the last four years and I wish the club well for the future."
