Craig: Bath have final say on Ford future

George Ford's future is the subject of renewed speculation but Bath owner Bruce Craig says it will be the club who have the final say over whether he will be allowed to leave the club.

Ford is contracted with Bath until the end of the 2017-18 campaign but The Times has reported he has activated a get-out clause which permits him to be a free agent at the end of the current season.

The England fly-half was upset at the club's decision to sack his father Mike at the end of last term. Reports suggested he was keen to leave the club and he would have no shortage of potential suitors as one of the world's premier fly-halves.

But he has impressed under Todd Blackadder this term with the new Bath coach comparing him to New Zealand great Dan Carter. Bath would be desperate to keep him and owner Craig says they will decide whether to allow Ford to leave if he opts to continue his career away from the Recreation Ground.

"There are lots of different pieces to this," Craig said in The Times. "There are other things that need to be applied. It is in our hands whether we let him go or not.

"There is a contract in place until the end of next season. He can't leave at the end of this season unless the club says he can. It is in our remit whether we let him go or not."
