Shoulder surgery sidelines Samson Lee

Wales tight-head Samson Lee will miss the start of the domestic season due to shoulder surgery.

Lee, 23, has undergone the surgery to his left shoulder and is sidelined for 12 to 16 weeks. He played in all three of Wales' Tests in New Zealand and the prognosis means he will be fit for the November series.

While Lee will miss the start of the season, there is better news regarding DTH van der Merwe, Emyr Phillips and Gareth Owen who will all be fit for Guinness PRO12 duty.

Matthew Rees, Scarlets head physiotherapist, said: "Samson has undergone shoulder surgery and is expected to be unavailable for 12-16 weeks.

"We're pleased to see DTH, Emyr and Gareth making good progress and on track to be back in action for the start of the season."
